Baby's First Picture

Today baby had his or her first picture taken.

We had our last doctor's appointment about 10 day ago. At 10 weeks pregnant the doctor expected to hear the fetal heartbeat with the doppler monitor. Unfortunately the baby didn't make a peep. It was a little disheartening but the doctor made an appointment to try again in a few days.

So there we were again today and the baby was up to his or her usual shenanigans. The heartbeat was nowhere to be found.

Although we didn't have an ultrasound scheduled, the doctor thought it might put our minds to rest knowing that there was a heartbeat. Indeed it did. Yes, not hearing the baby's shwooh-shwoosh made us a little nutso at first, but seeing him or her on the monitor and coming home with a picture to share almost made the anxiety worth it.

In this picture the baby is 11 weeks and 4 days old so he or she looks more like Mr. Peanut sans the top hat, monocle and cane, than a baby. But look how cute?!? Cootchie Cootchie Coo!

(Comments re home pregnancy test posting on 2/4/03.) I do remember vividly when I first met Izzy, my daughter who is now 5, as a little band of color. It was quite a not-believe-your-eyes surprise. Nope I don't get shocked easily but this was one time. She has continued to be a maverick fireplug ever since. Posted by: Bob Stein at July 17, 2003 03:49 PM
I just found this blog and it's really cool to look through and see everything through the start (this post) through when you decided to stop... Understandable though that you would stop at that age. Posted by: My Baby Advice at January 14, 2008 02:20 PM
