The Discovery Girls

This month Kristen and I took Jillian and Kate to the Fort Lauderdale Museum of Discovery and Science. We were a little disappointed that the great gravity clock wasn't working, maybe as a result of the bad hurricane season we had last year. Kate was really looking forward to seeing it in action again. But that little exhibit aside, the girls really enjoyed themselves.

We played with all kinds of gizmos and gadgets and got see a bunch of different live animals. An animal handler even gave us the opportunity to touch a turtle. Kate was very interested in touching the turtle. Jillian took the approach of 'if you don't touch me, turtle, I won't touch you,' but she was more than happy to watch. We also found out that a boy turtle has long fingernails, and when he finds a girl turtle that catches his eye he uses his fingernails to tickle her face. That's how he tells her he's interested. Cute, huh?

Anyway, our last stop was the Discovery Center for children 7 and under. We figured if the rest of the museum didn't wear Jillian and Kate out, this area surely would. They played with computers, built walls in a house, worked on a citrus farm (like the Boynton Beach Schoolhouse Children's Museum) and climbed a really cool tree. All these very interesting things to do and I think that they had the most fun following each other on ride-on cars. They went up and down and all around on those ride-ons. It was really cute.
