An Experimental 'Do

Kate tried out a new hairdo compliments of Daddy, her bathtime stylist. It wasn't a keeper, but rubber ducky liked it after a little persuasion and a closer look.

A Trail Behind Her

We may not know where Kate is headed off to next, but we almost always know where she's been. Just look for the mess. From the diapers on her changing table shelves to every little item in her diaper bag, she loves to empty everything. Now we just need to work on teaching her how to clean up after herself. These are a few shot of her working her magic on her changing table as well as taking a moment to smile for the camera as she does some damage on her diaper bag. How can you get upset at that cute little face?

Speaking of that little face...every picture I've taking of Kate lately shows her with a little yellow nose. For awhile I was giving Ken a hard time for not giving her a good cleaning during bathtime. But after these pictures I noticed she was yellow in other places, like her neck, armpits, hands and feet. Surely she couldn't be smearing her food and staining all of these body parts.

After a little research I found out that Kate has carotenemia. In summary, it means she has too much carotene in her system. It is completely benign and happens often in infants and young children who eat too much carotene-rich foods, like broccoli, carrots, spinach, squash, sweet potatoes, apples, oranges, peaches, prunes, tomatoes, egg yolks, milk and yellow corn. And it's no wonder my little pumpkin turned yellow with all of the Vitamin A found in Stage 3 baby food dinners. Her favorites -- Beech-Nut Turkey Rice Dinner and Beech-Nut Macaroni & Beef Dinner -- each respectively provide 450% and 60% of her daily recommended allowance of Vitamin A. If she had one for lunch and one for dinner that would be a whopping 510%.

So if it's not blue teeth to cause worry, then it's a yellow nose. Her yellow-orange skin may not look too attractive right now, but at least we know that it's not dangerous and that Kate is definitely eating her vegetables. Maybe our little bunny will just grown up to have some really good eyesight.

A Play Date With Jillian

Every few weeks Kristen and Jillian meet me and Kate at Sawgrass Mills "2 Mile" Mall for a little walking and a little shopping. Kristen and Jillian live about 100 miles away, so it's a real treat when they come to town. Kate and Jillian are only about 4 months apart, and I expect that they will grow up to be as good of friends as me and Kristen, a friend I've known for about 20 years now.

We had to stop during our mall walk so I could take these shots of Kate and Jillian holding hands from their strollers while we walked. Aren't they adorable?!?

Weekend Play With Tyler

This past Saturday Kate got together with her friend Tyler. Tyler is only 2 weeks and 2 days older than Kate, and a perfect little playmate. They both really enjoyed playing with Kate's LeapStart Learning Table. This is by far one of Kate's favorites toys. She enjoys pushing, pulling, sliding, opening and closing all of the instruments, as well as listenting to all of the songs and sounds it makes as a result of her efforts. If a good song plays she may even break out into a little bobbing dance. She also really likes it because it gives her a place to stand. And she loves to cruise around the four sides while she plays.
