Taking A Break

It's been awhile since we've had a chance to give any updates. Between birthday parties, Father's Day, work and reorganzing our home for our little cruiser, we've been a busy household. Here are a few pictures of Kate taking a break amidst her busy social schedule. After an exciting time at Jillian's first birthday we stopped at Cracker Barrel for a quick bite to eat. Before feasting on her Gerber's pears, Kate took a moment with zebra on one of the many rocking chairs lining the front porch of Cracker Barrel. Lucky for Kate they had one that was almost just the right size.

Getting Around

For the past few weeks Kate has been able to to get herself from her to there by wriggling around like a little inchworm. Lucky for us I had the camera close by when we caught Kate's first attempts at crawling. At first I didn't even notice. I just noticed that the lid from her Fisher-Price Brilliant Basics™ Baby’s First Blocks was stuck to the heel of her foot as she was moving along. As soon as it set free I noticed that she was on her hands and knees moving forward. She's still working on her technique, but in the meantime she's been doing pretty well getting around on her own. She's definitely keeping me and Ken on our toes. Her new mobility brings new adventures for her. She loves finding her way to magazines so she can crumple them and tear them into little pieces page by page.

Happy Father's Day, Ken!

Ken, you're navigating your first year like a pro. Thank you for being such a patient and loving husband and father, and most importantly keeping your sense of humor through it all. We love you!

Bath Time With Dad

Every night before bedtime Kate and Ken take a little bath. I should say that Ken gives Kate a bath, but sometimes he gets so soaking wet from playing and entertaining that it's like he's taking his bath too. The two of them really enjoy their bath time together. Ken's got a two-part bath schedule. First Kate gets a good cleaning while she sits in her bath chair. Then Ken pulls her out of her chair for a little playtime, which include just floating around in the water on her tummy and back. Kate loves it. And of course, although Kate has several cute little bath toys, she enjoys an old Johnson's Bedtime Bath purple bottle most of all. Go figure!

Quickie Doctor Visit

Although our next doctor's appointment was scheduled for next month we made a visit on Monday to talk to the doctor about Kate's recent constipation problem. Of course we made the appointment on Friday and the problem resolved itself over the weekend. Nonetheless, we took advantage of the visit anyway to find out what to do next time it happens. We had called last week and the nurse told us to give Kate a teaspoon of Karo dark syrup in her bottle. It sounded a little voodoo to us, but we tried it anyway. It didn't work, and neither did the water, pureed prunes, apple sauce, apple juice or prune juice. Or maybe they did work it just took a few days. The doctor later told us that the Karo Syrup only works on baby's 2 months old and younger. Who knew? Obviously not his nurse.

We also found out that Kate is now 27 inches long and 16lbs., 3oz. The doctor wasn't too concerned about her weight, but he thought she could stand to gain a few pounds. Therefore he recommended that we increase her caloric intake. We'll see how well we're doing at plumping her up at her next appointment.

Sneaking A Peek

Everyday Ken, Kate and I try to get out of the house for a little stroll. Now that we're entering the longest, sunniest and hottest days of summer we do what we can to protect Kate from direct sunlight. Our strategy includes baby sunscreen, a big floppy hat and pulling the sun shade down as far as it can go on Kate's stroller. To Kate, though, the fun part about our stroll is checking out everything around her. Sometimes she'll sit back and enjoy the ride, but for the most part she pulls up to front of her stroller and hunches down so she can sneak a peak at what's happening on the outside.
